Department Responsibilities

  • Acts in an advisory and project management capacity for departmental technology purchases used to streamline workflow and improve productivity
  • Analyzes emerging technology and determines how and when its application becomes relevant and cost effective to county business
  • Creates and maintains the county’s web presence
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs IT equipment, such as workstations, printers, and servers
  • Manages the telephone and voicemail systems that include a mixture of digital and analog platforms
  • Manages various interconnected local-area networks that form the county’s wide-area network, the backbone of the infrastructure that allows data sharing between county facilities
  • Oversees a number of file, print, application, web, email, and domain controller servers used to direct information flow across the networks
  • Provides first and second level technical support for all software and hardware issues

The department manages more than 500 computers, numerous peripherals, and servers spread across several discrete buildings including:

  • Adult and Juvenile Probation Offices
  • County Clerk / District Clerk
  • County Farm Complex
  • Department of Development
  • Ellis County Courts Building
  • Ellis County Historic Courthouse
  • Four Justice of the Peace / Constable locations
  • Four road and bridge locations
