The County Court at Law One's duties are strictly judicial in nature compared to the County Judge whose duties are primarily administrative.

County Court at Law One handles:
  • Probate matters
  • Will contests
  • Civil lawsuits (no dollar limitation)
  • Family Code Chapter 33 - Parental Notification for Abortion
  • Condemnation lawsuits
  • Child Protective Services cases
  • Adult Protective Services and Department of Aging and Disability Services cases
  • Adoptions resulting from Child Protective Services terminations
  • Civil appeals from the Justice of the Peace courts
  • Occupational driver’s licenses
  • Weapons destruction
  • Guardianships both indigent and private
